| Two things which might help:
1)  There used to be thick carb-to-manifold gaskets available; these helped 
insulate the carbs from heat being conducted from the exhaust manifold.
2)  Fabricate a heat shield from thin sheet metal to protect the carbs from 
the heat radiated from the exhaust manifold.  If you want to get really 
fancy, the back side of the shield can be insulated with paper/cloth made of 
asbestos
