LH type OD 3/4 lockout switch problem

The OD now switches out on deceleration, and if I hold the gearshift
over to the right it kicks back in. Obviously, the inaccessible 3/4
lockout switch is not working or adjusted properly.  

Any quick fixes or is it time to cut a hole in the transmission tunnel
and replace the bugger?  Can someone who has done this please summarize
the process again?
