what makes a car a "Classic?"

Been reading here about what you all drive and  consider classic cars.  I 
have owned and now regularly drive the same 71 MGB/GT for 20 years.  

It's a pleasant dependable car that now gets waves and turns some heads, but 
I have trouble thinking of it as a classic car.  

Is there an official definition of a classic car?
