One other slight advantage with dual points is it MAY help
control point bounce. With the points out of phase with each
other, if one point should bounce open when closing, or close
late, the other point may be closed. This helps maintain the
exact timing. However, point bounce doesn't usually occur until
the nether regions of high RPM. As most cars aren't racers as
Barney said, it isn't really justifiable.
Also as pointed out, dual points help maintain the correct dwell
time. Because eight cylinder engines may have one-half the dwell
time when compared to a four, dual points may be more effective
for eight cylinder engines.
