My guess is it's because the originals went obsolete several years ago and,
for a long time, people with electric gauges whose senders failed had to
either run with no oil pressure gauge or convert to a mechanical gauge.

Then Moss realised there was a need for these senders - albeit a limited
need, as there were only a couple of years of MGB production that needed
them - so they spent big bucks arranging for this part to be reproduced. The
net result is that the electric senders are once again available, but the
cost has to reflect the investment made by Moss.

My hat's off to Moss for making them available again. After all, they are
not twisting anyone's arm to buy one.............
