Maybe a dumb question but are you turning it in the right direction? If
you are using a ratchet then there is no question but if not you wouldn't
be the first one to spend a day tightening a nut. Off the topic but what I
find helpful when working under a car is to put a ratchet next to the
part that I am loosening and make sure that I am really turning it in the
right direction. If so, and if I need to use a wrench, then I turn the
wrench in the direction that the ratchet is suppose to move in. There is
also another way of determining the direction by closing your hand and
looking at
which way your thumb is pointing.
