 Dear Joe,

The front dampers on the Midget are Armstrong units, identical to those
used on the British Aistin A30, A35 and A40 Farina. All that goes wrong
with them is the seals wear away, and they leak from the pivot bushes.
Most reconditioners just use a hydraulic press to remove the 'arms, and
fit new seals. The casting of the body, and the material the shaft runs
in directly, as there are NO bushes inside, is MAZAK, the same stuff
car door handles and chrome trim is cast from. They have a short life,
and here in the UK a whole cottage industry exists for their repair.
People like Moss will stock new, ( or even reconditioned,) items.

There is a coil-over-damper kit, with a replacement upper arm, that can
be fitted to get rid of the lever-arm damper. Good luck.

Neil
