1974 was the year that most car manufacturers stopped quoting "gross
horsepower"- power with no accessories running on the engine- and started
qouting "SAE net horsepower"-power with all accessories installed and
operating. Comparisons between 1973 and 1974 model year cars are usually a
bit startling because of this.
