I looked at that 66 B today. At least, I think its a 66... the VIN is
GHN3L/70307 which Vicky Brit and some other list as a 65 model year
but Moss and Clausager which I would tend to believe do not have a starting
car # for the 66 model year so it could very well be. Anyway I digress.
One odd thing about it, is it has a later transmission (doesn't know what
year) knife and forked in, it didn't require any body modifications really
it seems to have just barely fit in. There is a plate between the trans
and the engine he said was changed, the the starter motor was changed
for the new trannie. As well, a newer style oil filter adaptor had to be
fitted to make space. The overdrive has a lighted rocker switch mounted
on the trannie tunnel and seems to go in and out of OD when it should.
Everything else seems to be original.
Rust isn't too bad, the rockers are bubbling a bit but what can you
expect, there is a little surface rust around the headlamps, but other than
that I was suprised that the undercarriage seems very very solid, none of
the ummm castle? rails underneath seem to have any rust at all, i pulled
up the carpet in the boot and not a spot of rust. The gaps in all the
panels are even and it doesn't seem to sag at all. Floor seems solid and
looks fine from underneath.
Engine bay looks good, the usual grime and oil but no major leaks. It had
been sitting for quite a while and had only 3 drops of oil on the clean
floor beneath!! I was quite impressed. It has passed local emissions,
although the vacuum advance is disconnected.
Drive seemed solid, brakes work well, shifting was smooth, oil pressure was
around 45-50 at idle and between 60-70 driving. Started up with no
problem at all, no choke. Idle smooth. No run-on.
It has a new hood, all the eletrics and gauges are working. Paint is faded
but who cares. Interior is a tatty but functional. New hood.
It was rear ended a little bit some years ago :P There is a small gap at
the bottom of the boot lid (it still closes perfectly well) and the drivers
side rear lens cover is held on with duct tape. Doesn't look bad, but
who knows. The panels aren't crumpled and the bumper still seems solid
and isn't dented.
He's asking $2400 Canadian obo. What do you think?? I want it ;) He
seems to be a thoughtful owner that just can't justify having a second car
and its perfectly functional but in need of a little TLC....
