I believe what you describe is a switch that was mounted on the bottom of the 
drivers seat.  It detects that you need to connect your seatbelt, runs the 
buzzer and/or seatbelt light.  Richard

Found in the boot of my MGB.

  It's a white plastic disc about the size of a coaster.

  It says "Smiths" on it and has a wire or two coming out
of the edges.
