MGB Choke bracket?

I have a bracket in my MGB choke linkage that
I can't find in the Haynes manual.

  It looks exactly like a question mark and it's
about four inches long. The cable is held in
one end, there are two holes in the unit that I
can't seem to match up to any holes on anything
else.

  Ideas? The car is a 1970, the engine is later
but the carbs are the older ones with external
float bowls.
