Bob:

"Tubbing" is enlarging the rear wheel wells to where they can stuff huge
drag-racing slicks in them. From the inside, the new wheel wells look like
wash tubs that have been split in two, thus the term "tubbing."  You can
imagine the look when the slicks are about 18" wide. 

Another term, related, is "back-halving." This is where the entire rear
sub-structure of the car is cut out, and replaced with a tube steel sub
frame, to allow the use of tubs and huge slicks.
