To all that sent comments and suggestions on the failure to crank the engine
after the re-wire job.. THANKS... 

I started with the simplest suggestion and used jumper cables from my running
Ford to the + starter lug and ground to block. Turned over like a baby with
gas ;-)

Yet to have it start, will check carb/fuel pump and spark over the weekend.
