the bonnet is original and functions as a stiffening batten, this area is
quite stressed. Also there should be a felt strip between the aluminium
skin and the wooden strip which prevents "drumming" of the skin with engine
vibrations. There is the same arrangement along the inside of the boot lid
back edge. If it is missing you should at least see two tiny holes where
the screws secured this strip.
