Weird Tapping Noise

Here's one for the sleuths:

At idle no noise, when accelerating, a loud tapping noise, from engine,
but only when moving.  I can accelerate slowly with hardly any tap, and
can rev the engine with no tap.  What could it be - that ISNT the main
bearings!  :(    I would like to eliminate everything else first......

I am hoping that with a new job closer to home I might use my B as a
commuter- and sell my new truck!
