Hiya, Sally! I remember meeting you and Marty at the Spring Richmond
show couple of years back, just after you'd gotten the 75B. Hope to see
you there again.
Couple of points I'll add: The Blue Ridge Parkway actually starts just
south of Waynesboro, VA. North of that, the same stretch of road is
called the Skyline Drive, so look for signs for that when you're in the
Front Royal area. I'd actually pick up the route further north of where
Sally suggests ... take the I-70 bit to ... whatsit out that way,
Thurmont? Right in the middle of the Catoctin Mts, just south of the PA
line. Pick up US 15 South at that point, and take it across the Furnace
Mtn. Bridge into VA (Loudoun County, one of the nicest places in the
state), down through the Virginia horse country (Oatlands, with its
restored Carriage House, is a great stopover for a picnic, and it's on
US 15 just south of Leesburg) and a seven mile detour west on US 50 will
take you into Middleburg, VA (horse country galore) and a couple of fine
eating establishments ... Red Fox Tavern, Magpies, and the Coachstop if
you like lighter fare ... and all the casual antiquing you'd want to
see. Back south on US 15, take it through Warrenton and you'll see signs
for picking up the Skyline Drive when US 211 turns right off of US 15.
Take that route ... it's a spectacular uphill climb through horse
country into the mountains, and a great way to get onto the Drive. Not
long, either ... maybe 18 miles or so. Much better than nasty old I-81
with its bumper-to-bumper rigs. I completely concur with Sally, though,
stay off of I-95 and I-66. They're commuter hell.
