Just my £.02 worth
Recently there was a statement on the list to the effect that if "God had
wanted MGs to have Weber Carburators, Kimber would have made a deal with
Mussilini"
Give it a break!. It's obvious the writer has a prejudice against the
Weber. But dont try to make it some kind of treason to consider the option.
The main reason most MG s have S.U. Carbs is that S. U. was a part of the
Morris group, the same as MG!
In addition the factory Special Tuning group utilized Webers on many of the
competition cars. So much that the parts to install a side draft Weber on the
MGB engine was listed in the Special Tuning catalouge of parts, WITH "MOWOG"
PART NUMBERS! In fact you could purchase every thing needed to install the
Weber (except the carburator itself) from your local MG dealer, although much
was special order from Special Tuning.
FWIW, I do not run a Weber on my B, but not because of blind prejudice,
but because I took the time to investigate the relative merits of the
available systems before deciding that for my driving style and for my
personal preferences the S.U. suited the case. As for the owner who installs
a Weber because it suits his style and preferences, O K. If nothing else it's
a good excuse to have a couple of cold ones while we discuss the relative
merits of both systems.
