| 1) Every B I've ever seen, including mine, has had pretty noisy =
lifters. The bad ones sound like a sewing machine. I generally tighten =
them down to .13 or .14 instead of .15 (the clearance recommended by the =
manual). This little bit can't hurt on a car with such a huge =
tolerance, and cuts back on the rattle significantly.
2) When you open in up, it doesn't really make a mess at all, =
especially if it's cold.

Subject: Valve Lifter noise
Can someone tell me how to get
rid of valve noise?? I have a 67
B with a knocking noise that I think
is the lifters rattling.
I would like to know how to do it
and also how to prevent oil from
going everywhere when the valve cover is
removed.
Many MOONS ago, I saw my dad do it on
a 52 Buick, and I was under the impression
that it can be messy.
I know there is help out there.
Thanks
