Although I rarely if ever watch Jay Leno's television program, I really believe that he is, in the best sense, a true car guy.

Sure, he's wealthy, but he also happens to be a blue collar guy (if that makes anyone feel better) who hasn't forgotten his roots even though he's been paid a great deal of money to tell jokes.

When I worked in LA, I used to see him actually driving around in some incredible cars--not keeping them in some private museum. Always approachable, he seemed really happy to talk knowledgeably to anyone about his hobby.

The old Toronado was one of the really great Bill Mitchell designs, but FWD limited its appeal to those who like to increase the performance of their cars. Jay Leno's project is no more foolish than some good old boy Texan's work in cramming a 260 Ford into an AC Ace or, for that matter, some people I could name's dumb idea of putting a small block V8 into some old MGB!

Jay Leno has some really nice cars, but as far as him being a real car guy,
give me a break. Honestly, the most stupid thing he has ever done was pay
his mechanics to put an Old Tornado body (originally front wheel drive) on a
late model corvette frame/drivetrain (rearwheel drive) and then tout this as
a major project. The Discovery Channel was lame enough to make a show on
this car. You can bet that real car guys (as in many if not most on this web
site) are offended by the people like him that think money can buy them a
reputation. Leno probably wouldn't know anything about English cars. (think
he might know about the MG line?). I bet he wouldn't be able to even tell if
a bugeye and a midget (sprite) were related. Think he knows that MG is
"Morris Garage"?
