2.5 years after starting my project, the V8 ran for the first time today. It
all went pretty well. The timing needed some tweaks to run, but basically
that was only to rotate the dizzy by a couple of teeth and readjust.
After that we got some chokes, pops and short runs and discovered that I had
left a vacuum fitting open on the back of the carb. This made for some great
backfires and two foot flames coming out the carb. After sealing that up it
started and ran with little problem.
We found that I had a lot of air trapped in the block, and when we hit 240 it
blew a hose off and made quite a mess. After reseating the hose and cleaning
a bit we refilled the engine and it holds a steady 190deg while running.
As car projects go, I think it went well, and for those that are wondering,
many hi-tech people were there so there are many digital pictures and
soundbites now. These will be showing up soon, and I'll let you know
when/where.

Thanks to everyone that has offered advice over the last few years, and
especially to those that made it out to watch and help today.

james
