Front coil spring pans

Somewhere, sometime, someone ....

Which one of you out there modified your coil spring pans to lower them?  Did I 
read this on this
list?

Assuming it was on this list how did you do it?  A friend just called me and 
said he thought it
was done by cutting out the center of the pan and re-welding it to the other 
side.  Sound
familiar?
