Turn signal switch location

I'm upgrading my add-on turn signal system with an original vacuum 
canclelling switch and I'm not sure where to mount the switch. I 
thought it should go under the edge of the dash in the midline, but 
I've seen at least one later TD with the switch about four inches to 
the right of the midline (LHD).
Can anyone with factory turn signals tell me where to mount the 
switch?
