A phase converter can be as simple as an old  3 phase motor and a 270 mfd
capacitor .

        (A) 220 single phase wire
        (B) 220 Bridgeport wire
        (O) 220 3 phase idler motor terminal
        (S) switch
                       (A)---(S)----(O)--------(B)
                                          \
                                           capacitor
                                          /
                                       (O)--------(B)
                       (A)---(S)----(O)--------(B)

The capacitor (the inexpensive start type) is engaged with a push button just
to get the idler motor spinning at start-up . Once the idler motor is running
the Bridgeport runs like it was pluged into a 3 phase outlet . Both 3 phase
motors need to be set for 220 . The idler motor hp should be at least half
that of the Bridgeport motor . Did mine this way and it works fine .
