Dan;
I'll certainly defer to you experienced folks....but it sure looks wet
right now.

I agree that it is difficult to tell how things will shape up by
Speedweek. The photos I posted show a lot of improvement in the water
situation from a similar batch of photos taken 3 weeks prior. It is
fair
to say that SLC has experienced a much cooler and wetter spring than in
the
past few years. The local Salt Racers are keeping a close eye on
Bonneville conditions. I know that hot dry weather can change the
water
situation quickly at Bonneville. I am personally working as hard as I
can
to finish a car for this racing season. I have decided to put off any
pessimistic assessment of the wet race course until at least late
July. There is a local Holiday July 24-25 (Mormon Pioneer Day). I
expect
that some local salt racer and/or some of the USFRA management, will be
going out to check on the race course on that weekend. If no one else
is
going out, I will personally go and look things over. That about 7
weeks
from now, and three weeks before the start of SpeedWeek. That is
probably
about as early as it would be reasonable to try and predict racecourse
conditions for Speedweek.
Accurate weather data from the Wendover area is difficult to obtain, our
spring rains have been spotty, causing flash flooding in some areas, and
very little in others. As always, Bonneville weather is mostly the luck
of
the draw. As for me, I will be hard at work on my racer every day from
now
till at least July 24.
I believe that all racers must be optimists.
Be assured that I'll pass along any accurate information that comes my
way. This place is supposed to be a desert!!!

It's amazing what you can do if you don't know it can't be done.
