Keith and Dave, many thanks for the information. A stock 9" Ford pinion
was available in both 28 & 31 splines.  I thought Keith might have
overpowered the 28 spline pinion. Thanks to your response, I won't worry
about overpowering one, but good point Dave, I definitely will check its
integrity.
