I don't think you mean the centerline of the car. Or at least we need a
clarification. It's all about CG.  If Mr. Jolly Green hung the car exactly
from the center of the BODY SHAPE but the CG was off to any side of that
line then the car would dangle at an angle. The chute should be pulling
through the center of the CG.  -Elon

if you were the Jolly Green Giant ( ho ho ho )and you grabbed the parachute
and lifted... you would want the car to tangle exactly straight down...it
needs to pull from as close to the centerline of the car as possible..
