David Freiburger here, editor of HOT ROD magazine. I've just signed up to
the LSR list again after being gone for more than a year. I initially
un-subscribed because I get about a hundred emails a day as it is, but I
decided to hook up again.

I wanted my first post to tell you about the Texas Mile, in case Turk has
not already filled you in, which he probably has. Anyway, in the March issue
I wrote a story on the first-ever event on a paved runway near Goliad, and I
encouraged the promoters to allow SCTA/ECTA rules, classes, and records.
They've been swamped with response, and will have 3 events this year with
LSR classes. See www.texasmile.com.

The second reason I signed up is that I'm finally committed to an LSR
project car. I've wanted to do this for like 6 years, and have purchased
five different cars with 100 different schemes to go racing. I kept changing
my mind too often (example: bought a '62 Chevy and decided it was too cool
to cut up), and I also couldn't get enthusiastic about the swoopy body
styles (example: I got a '91 Firebird, but it just doesn't have any
character). Finally, I've purchased a '71 Camaro and am actively hacking on
it. Not the best bodystyle for aero, but at least I like it and will finish
it. I hope to enlist your advice along the way.

Finally, don't forget that HOT ROD remains in full support of land speed
racing. See you at El Mirage next week.
