Bryan--
like I said, the figures they give for the outboards are surprisingly puny.
for $1000 (or so), you can get a low-milage salvage liter-bike engine-- half
the displacement-- with 140 (or more) HP, STOCK.
(That's $7 per horsepower-- including an excellent transmission. That's 2.3
HP /cubic inch, without any special race buildup!)
That exotic racing Mercury's 180HP is easily within reach-- on gas-- on half
the displacement. A good hot-rodder could probably find that 40 more HP for
less than $500.
Because of these figures-- as much as I like 2-strokes, I think the outboard
motor idea seems not very competitive.

Mercury has a V6 that puts out 300 BHP on 185 CID <--- that's right
Propshaft Rated Horsepower (HP / kW): 300 / 224
Displacement (CID/cc): 185 cu. In. (3032cc)
Bore & Stroke (in): 3.63 x 3.00
Bore & Stroke (mm): 92 x 76
Does ANYONE know why a "3.0L (185 CID) powerhead " isn't
181CID or 3000cc or smaller???
They also have a racing 2.0L V6 (1998cc) 180 HP @ 7500.
Don't ask what they cost....
