Subject: Hydrogen question / Hindenberg -- Answer
List respondents;
Thank you, everyone.
With the information you provided, I did a search using "hindenburg fire
aluminum"
and found this page which has a complete analysis of the disaster.
http://engineer.ea.ucla.edu/releases/blimp.htm
The pigment was aluminum powder, an explosive under the right conditions.
The military has an underground explosive device that blows a cloud of
Al powder into a confined area and after a delay lights it.
Aluminum powder was also used in the SPGG's used to start the turbo
pumps in the Atlas missile. (Solid Propellant Gas Generator)
Sooo , the Hindenberg was coated with a thin layer of rocket fuel.
Thanks again folks,
Bryan
