Bob;

I don't know about Halibrands, but on our MacLaren, the "knock-off" wasn't a
conventional 3-ear threaded nut. It was a big aluminum hex nut that threaded
on to a hollow hub and this was held on by the friction of tightening torque
on its tapered mating surface. A safety retainer (like a big cotter pin) was
put through two holes in the hub to keep the wheel retainer nut from coming
off entirely if it ever did loosen.

If I may sidetrack away from dry sumps for a minute, I'd like to ask a
question.

I've been looking at some Halibrand knock off hubs. Having had numerous
British cars, I know that they use clockwise tightening threads on the
left side and counterclockwise on the other side.

Is it correct that Halibrand uses clockwise tightening threads on BOTH
Sides? If this is true, how do they keep the rightside wheels from
fallling off at speed?

Thanks,
