My wife and I were older when we got married, first time for each of us. As
a result the girls were born to "mature" parents. I turned 50 before the
last one was born and had a gall bladder attack late in the evening on my
birthday. As a result of the long incision, I walked with a cane for a
couple of weeks after I got out of the hospital. Made for a funny sight, my
pregnant wife, bending backwards to balance, and me with the cane, unable to
stand up straight. I told my wife that I thought my warranty had run out.
Her unsympathetic reply was, "You'd damn well better get it renewed with
this kid on the way." It hurt to laugh but I did it anyway.
They say the kids keep you young ... don't believe it. I'm sure others on
the list can agree. It's not the kids but having an exciting purpose for
waking up every day.
