At the request of hundreds of you, well, nearly a hundred, shucks, 1 of you,
I did a little cutting on the time slip data. For the adventuresome in you,
if you look at the master data base on the web site and start to fiddle with
it, you most likely will not get to the same point. Kentucky windage is used
in massaging the data... What I did here was to separate out the various
mile markers, figuring that many of the folks who just made it to the three
mile were making 150 mph club runs and/or licensing runs of some sort or
another. Still imbeddin that is the runs that were made to show that your
car is safe above 175 in the 2 1/4 mile trap. So the 3 mile data is still
polluted a little bit. I also subtracted the 4 mile data out as well as the
5 mile. It is interesting to see that of the 43 cars that made it to the 4
mile, 29 continued to the 5 mile reaching highest speeds. Or about a third
terminated their runs after the four mile because they were either not going
as fast or had failure of some sort or another. Well, here is the data cut
another way....

Mile % of Max Speed # of Vehicles
3 mile 2.25 0.9868 39
                   3 1.0000 39
The above is only cars that ran to the 3 mile and turned out for whatever
reason and had their higest speed at that point. This could include
licensing runs, safety check runs, blown motors and just plain bad runs.

Mile % of Max Speed # of Vehicles
4 mile 2.25 0.9456 14
                   3 0.9640 14
                   4 1.0000 14
This is only the cars that made it to the 4 mile flag and got a top speed
for that mile.

Mile % of Max Speed # of Vehicles
5 mile 2.25 0.8923 29
                  3 0.9186 29
                  4 0.9706 29
                  5 1.0000 29
This is only the cars that made it to the 5 mile flag and got a top speed
for that mile.

Mile % of Max Speed # of Vehicles
4+5 mile 2.25 0.9096 43
                 3 0.9334 43
                 4 0.9802 43
                 5 1.0000 29
Obviously combined 4 and 5 mile cars...

So what does it all mean? I dunno. Maybe that if you are close to the
record and have a mile left, go for it. Could mean another couple of
percent of your speed whatever it is. That advise, a dollar will get you
maybe a cup of coffee and a donut, maybee...certainly not worth much more.
Just interesting stuff...
