so it is okay to run an illegal car by class, as long as u dont get a
record or want a record? how do they clear tech? does the contestation come
up later?

Blatantly illegal vehicles or vehicles with no existing class are required to
run for time only. The vehicle cannot set a record at any venue in addition to
being unable to collect points at El Mirage.

Tech inspection is for safety only. As Jim wrote in his post an obviously
illegal vehicle, vehicle's component will be pointed out to the entrant. It is
not the safety inspector's job to classify your vehicle.

When a record is set the vehicle must be inspected for engine displacement for
class. The engine can be neither too big nor too small for the class entered.
The body and chassis are also certified at this time. If a rules discrepancy
is found the entrant must validate his construction. If the vehicle/component
is ruled to be illegal the record becomes void and the vehicle must be made to
compliance before it can compete in the same class at another meet.
