Folks,

The March 2001 issue of "Circle Track" has a Q & A section
and on pg. 104 is the following paragraph:

  "Consider oil temperature as well.  We find that petroleum-based
   oils, such as 20-50 multiweights, make optimum power between
   220 and 230 degrees F.  Lighter viscosity synthetic oils often
   produce similar horsepower numbers at 130 to 170 degrees F.
   There is a direct relationship between oil temperature and
   horsepower, but there are durability factors to be considered
   as well."  part of an answer by Keith Dorton

I found the specific values quoted to be interesting.

side note from the same issue:  Craftsman has a new two-stage,
25-gallon compressor, 110 volt, 175 psi.  Might need one of these
for the trailer BUT... MSRP is $429.99  :-(   Pg. 81 of issue
