Hallo Ron,( and the other bike boyz...)...well OK, everybody.
Watched you on the TV taking a spill trying for 200. Ouch!
I've only fell off twice so far, in 30 years of riding, and both where
under 35mph !!
The thing is, I have been looking at the P-PS speed records and for
750cc up there is an odd thing.....
The recorded speeds seem slower than I would have imagined. My 1982/3
750cc turbo Kawasaki was very quick and although the speedo can not
always be relied on as accurate, the bike would run off the clock at an
indicated 185mph,( on the Queen's hiway in the UK... Yes, there was a
speed limit, it was 70mph, but I was a complete 'nutter' back then
though, some will say... "So what's changed?"... )
Injection cut out was 11500rpm and 180 was still under 10900rpm. I
was running 'slightly' more boost than stock though. Also the F1 boys
where topping 200 on the F1 tracks, I speak of your Kenny Roberts and
the UK's Ron Haslem in the UK in the late 70's and 80's, I believe on
the Isle of Man TT, some ran 210mph on the long straights on the island.
Does running on the salt slow a vehicle down compared to asphalt or
concrete or is it rarefied air and temperature that's the problem? Joe
Amo pointed me to a 750 gpz bike for sale up in NC, I'm gonna call
tomorrow to see about that for a proddy racer(P-PS.). Anyone, feel free
to kick in their thoughts about this speed thing.
