Keith, I made my first air compressor, with my dad's help, way
back in 1955. We took an old refrigerator " one lunger " pump, and I gas
welded its' mount
to an old galvanized hot water tank with RIVETED ends, and welded on legs
fashioned from flat bar. It never could sustain a lot of pressure, but my
buddies and
I sprayed a number of cars with it . I replaced it in the 60s --- I would
look at those
old welds and the rivets, and I got afraid to put more than 30 or 40 # into
it !
I still have the darned thing, and it still has the " Regency Purple "
( an old Ford color ? ) overspray on it, from when a friend shot his newly
dechromed ' 41 Ford
ragtop with it --- as I recall, the girls liked the color ---
Seems like it was all lowbuck and home made stuff back then --- but ALL
 FUN !
I' ll prolly see ya at Maxton this spring.
