Just got back from El Mirage and here is an update on the
300 mph shootout. Remember last month Fast Freddie ran first,
was charging hard when he broke the coupler to the rear
end at half track. Pete, driving Les Leggitt's lakester ran in the
afternoon to an unbelievable 312 mph, eclipsing Don Carr and
Barry Kaplans 10 year old course record of 306 mph.

This weekend it was Fast Freddie out first Saturday with a 305 mph
AA/BFL record and into the dirty three club. Pete ran a little later
in B/BFL trim to a lazy 297 mph speed. Later inspection revealed
8 scuffed pistons and liners. Another all night vigil!

Sunday it was Pete down the track first. At the trap it banged hard
like a blower going off but when the patrols got to Pete it was discovered
that the rods came out both sides of the TFX block. Ouch!

Freddie's Sunday run ended again at half track when he started shooting
ducks
without a license and clicked it off for a coast through.

Next year will be exciting as both of these cars a capable of running in the
320's or beyond. Also which one will be the first to post a 300 mph
record at Muroc?
