Drivetrain effenciency

Hi
I know that a lot of power produced by the engine is lost as friction and
inefficiency in the transmision and diffreential.  What are the best
choices for those components for Salt flats racing?  What are the tradeoffs
involved? What can be done to increase effenciency in a given setup?
