Turning off the small valve on the side of the engine will only ensure that
the heater is most definitely OFF and will have no other detrimental
effects.
The 100 has 2 such valves, one on the head and one on the water pump and I
always run with both turned off. My car is usually in winter storage before
it's cold enough to need the heater.
