Simon,
Mechanical tach drive means BJ7 or older.
As Ira says, the engine ID plate would help. If the numbers starts with:
   26 ->100-6
   29D ->3000 MkI
   29E -> 3000 MkII (BT7 & BN7)
   29F -> 3000 Mk II BJ7
Does it have an intake manifold? Valve cover is on backwards. Generator
bracket is broken.
