The originals were not sided. We do have some that are sided and do not
require the cutting. They have a little different cross section but work.

Could be; it's been quite a while since I acquired these. My memory is
vague--news flash!--but I thought he said he'd worked at P&W.
Also, I think my plinths are original--did anybody even make
reproductions?--but I don't think they are brass; probably pot metal (but
it's a BN2/100M).
