Not sure if a satisfactory solution has been found but I have found that th=
e easiest way is to drill a hole in the middle then thread a long hardened =
lag screw through that hole.
The end of the screw will eventually hit something and then the core plug w=
ill pop out of its seat.

I noted the other day what a ghastly job that is. Always possible and nearl=
y always bl**dy awkward.
I=E2=80=99ve seen clips of guys =E2=80=93 always with the engine in pieces =
on the bench =E2=80=93 who just bang one lip inwards until the plug swivels=
in the hole. Then they just grab it with a mole(?!) wrench or similar and =
hoik it out. So easy.
I love my car dearly but I always expect the most cussed things of it and I=
=E2=80=99m seldom disappointed. Surely if I were to bang in those that I co=
uld reach, they=E2=80=99d just vanish inside, never to be seen again???
