As a Nasty Boy owner, I like the appellation. The origin of the term, I've
heard, came from the UK when the sound of a V8 powered Healey rumbling
through the pits caused an onlooker to remark, "That's a nasty boy, isn't
it?" I've had that same reaction to my car at shows or on tours and have
to say it's one of the most fun parts of the nasty experience. "Nasty Boy"
is now traditional. It's a uniquely Healey thing. There are lots of
modified LBCs, but the only other marque I can think of that has a name for
their modifieds is Tigerized Sunbeam Alpines, known as "Algers", which is
nowhere near as cool as "Nasty Boy." There definitely seems to have been a
change in attitude regarding modifieds over the years. I remember some
truly epic battles on the list in years gone by between the concours guys
and the modifiers. Happily, those seem to be ended. Call us what you
want, we're just having too much fun driving our cars.
