Fred I would suspect a failing battery might be the problem. Try a different battery before you spend any money. These cars have been starting well on the Lucas starters for 60 years without problem. If you suspect the starter motor find an old school auto electrician and ask them to go over it for you. The issues that occur with these units are usually easy to fix. The old starter will then last another 60years.
