What a team.
Many thanks for the almost immediate response from so many good people.
The crux of the question was that I had never heard of a #10 size in machine
screws - only ever in wood screws. With advice and guidance from so many of
you I've managed to get a clear understanding of what this is all about.
Stateside it seems to be well understood that below 1/4", sizes went to
numbering. Here in the UK I hadn't come across it. Possibly because the
engineering industry, when we still had one, tended to use BA sizes when
they got below 1/4".
The next challenge of course was to find a supplier. Engineering suppliers
here have been almost completeley taken over by the metric system. Getting
hold of M5 pozidrive screws is easy!!
#10 Philips was challenging!!.
Found what I need though with the power of the Internet. I am buying
everything I need in Stainless Steel from http://www.pts-uk.com at a
fraction of the cost of zinc plated screws from the usual suspects.
