Bob:
I used only sandpaper when refinishing my BJ8 dash. I started with coarse
and worked towards fine when removing the old varnish. Use a long flat
block.
Next, I coated the dash with tung oil. Note: tung oil will be a slightly
darker finish than OEM - but I used it to hide the cracks in the veneer.
I used a marine varnish with lots of light coats and sanding in between
coats when the finish was dry.
I finished the dash in 1999 and installed it several years later. It still
looks good.
Email me and I'll send a picture if you like.
