Blasting mechanical parts can be a bad idea because it's difficult to get all of the media out of the hidden nooks and crannies. A little sand will ruin your new rebuild in a heartbeat. That said I recall from my oilfield experience that media blasting on process piping is done with glass beads. I guess they are less abrasive and tended to flush through compressor valves and cylinders without causing any damage. I still don't think I'd trust them in an oil gallery. Bill Lawrence |
