Lenoir,
VANCOUVER - 20 years after the first 'Canadian" Meet at Whistler the
Austin-Healey Owners Association of British Columbia will host the
30th celebration of Austin Healeys at Nelson BC in the Selkirk
Mountains July 24 -28, 2006.
In 1996 Healey's went to the Silver Star Mountain resort in the
Okanagan Valley. This time it's Nelson BC, nestled in the heart of the
Selkirk Mountains where they'll gather. Located exactly halfway
between Calgary and Vancouver and about 50 kilometres north of the
U.S. border Nelson is an outstanding collection of early 20th century
architecture and a modern mountain paradise on Kootenay Lake. Once the
site of turn of the century horse races, saloons and silver miners
Nelson now offers the region a vibrant arts community, hundreds of
vintage homes, churches, boutiques, great dining, Heritage walking
tours as well as being the gateway to some of the most breathtaking
scenery there is.
Among Nelson's greatest riches are the thousands of square kilometres
of backcountry that surround it, making it a haven for hiking,
golfing, kayaking, climbing, cross-country and downhill skiing,
snowboarding and of course those infamous Healey tours. Nelson is the
starting point for those magnificent trips into the Kootenay
environment.
Situated on the west arm of Kootenay Lake Nelson is the starting point
for this meet. Activities will be fun and plentiful. Roads and
highways in the area are both fun and challenging, perfect for the
'not-to-serious' rally. Here you'll glimpse the towering peaks of the
Purcell and Selkirk mountain ranges, which stay snow capped long into
the summer months, the fascinating caves of Ainsworth Hot Springs, and
some of the best Kokanee salmon fishing in the world, not to mention
the beer.
The Nelson 2006 committee is finalizing the events calendar right now,
and registration and hotel information will be available very soon. In
the meantime, set aside the dates, July 24 - 28 2006 and plan to
attend Nelson 2006 in beautiful British Columbia. See you there, eh!
