Steve,
You rode around a little with me when you were here. My back isn't in
the best shape, but I've driven overnight from San Diego to Lake Tahoe
(806 miles) without back pain caused from the trip. I use a small
Temperpedic lumbar pillow, and I'm sure it helps. I am going to take
a second look at the gas pedal distance and see if it needs to be
shortened (as suggested) to make driving even more comfy.
And John Sims - I think I'll try your prescription if I get any
cramps. Other than death or near complete disability am I going to
stop driving my Healey. ;-)

Lest we conclude that all Healeys are uncomfortable by nature, and
recognizing that backs are all different, of course, I am used to
regular
long trips in my BJ8 of 300 - 400 miles (and once, 900 in one day),
and
never have had any back problems with the stock seats (re-foamed and
re-covered in 1999). My Miata is a different story: my right leg
cramps up
something fierce after only about 2 hours in that car.

OK my BN6 is hot, I sweat in it. My back feels like crap after an hour
or
so. I smell of oil, etc. The seats are like bare wood they are so
hard. The
steering wheel is in an uncomfortable position. My arms ache wrestling
with
it. What is left of my hair is all over my face. The comb-over is no
longer
over. The roar of the wind and noise of the engine make it difficult
to hear
for 30 minutes or so after returning home from a long drive.
BUT a seemingly miserable few hours in a Healey is better than a week
of
hedonistic pleasure. Just think of what your life would be like if you
didn't have to suffer through the pains of Healey ownership. Not worth
much
in my estimation. My Doctor has told me that quinine water is great to
prevent the leg cramps that I get from sitting in an uncomfortable
position
so, mixed with a tad of gin, that allows me to sit and ruminate about
the
ride I just had while healing and, oh by the way, since he prescribed
it,
Tanquerey and tonic is now a medical deduction on my income tax.
Healey on, Dudes and Dudettes!
