Doug,
I have had a similar problem on my BN 2 for over a year.  It would stop 
working at random.  Usually worked when cold and would often go hundreds of 
miles without a problem.  I now believe I have an intermittent internal 
short in the solenoid.  It finally stopped working when I had the tunnel off 
and I could see the solenoid wasn't working and the housing was very warm. 
A new solenoid is installed and the true test is coming up this weekend with 
a 600 mile trip to Rendezvous.
